Do gutter guards actually work, or are they a gimmick?
Good ones work, badly matched ones create a new problem. A guard sized for broad leaves will let pine needles and maple seeds through and then trap them where you cannot reach; a very fine mesh under a heavy oak canopy can shed leaves but needs the surface brushed occasionally. The failure most people describe is a guard chosen without anyone looking at the trees. We look first, then recommend, and sometimes recommend none.
Why do my gutters overflow in heavy rain even when they are clean?
Almost always capacity or pitch, not debris. If one downspout is draining a large roof area, the gutter fills faster than the outlet can empty it and the water goes over the front edge. Undersized outlets, a run pitched back toward the middle, or a sagging hanger that has created a low spot do the same. Can you replace rotten fascia at the same time as the gutters?
