The leak in our twin seems to start on the neighbor's side. What happens then?
We tell you straight and hand you the photographs. On attached homes the roof plane and often the gutter run carry on past the party wall. Water getting in above a neighbor's bedroom can surface over your own stairwell. There is a flat roof over our back addition. Do you cover that?
Yes. That deck needs a membrane, not shingles. Membrane systems are built for shallow pitch, and any of them outlasts shingles laid on a roof too flat to shed properly. Delaware County has an enormous number of these back additions and closed-in porches, and a surprising share of them are shingled. If yours is, that is very likely where the water is coming in.
