Water is coming in near my chimney chase. Is that a roof problem?
Often it is a chase problem that presents as a roof problem. On framed chimney chases finished in stucco or stone veneer, water enters at the cap or behind the counterflashing, runs down inside the chase, and exits onto a ceiling some distance from the chimney itself. We test the flashing and the cap separately, because replacing shingles around the base would fix nothing at all.
Can you add downspouts without replacing the whole gutter run?
